I’m not quite sure how I missed this (it has been around for a while now), however my good friend Brian Lapp recently forwarded me an interesting article that inspired me to post something up. Those of you still making those $0.50 411 calls, be sure to read on.
Google has yet another FREE service worth mentioning, Goog411, which let’s you make 411 calls (i.e. business phone # requests) for free. Not only that , after you make the information request, Google will send you the number, map, and any additional information to your cell phone for permanent storage. The process is quite simple:

You may be wondering how Google will profit from all of this, well guess what? They’re not going to. The true purpose behind this initiative is apparently to get as many human voices recorded as possible over the next year for a much bigger initiative: video content search (via voice recognition). Have a look at this blog post from Garett Rogers.
Searching video content (as opposed to titles and tags) is going to revolutionize the industry yet again. Think of all the traditional TV advertising that will now have to conduct keyword research and essentially video search engine optimization (VSEO) for their spoken audio. I am fully aware that there are plenty of tools out there already available such as Podscope , however as we all know, once Google gets their hands on something, it’s bound to be the best.
