How smart speakers and voice assistants are changing the game

It’s been six months now since I equipped my home with three Google Home Mini devices (one on each floor). As an audiophile, my reason for getting them was definitely not for use as speakers to play music (I have proper speakers for that), but rather as a test to see how far artificial intelligence (AI) driven voice-assistants have progressed. I also wanted to observe how this can affect day-to-day behaviours in a full household of five people (I have three kids under the age of five ).  While I am fully aware of the privacy issues these devices pose, I have already addressed my thoughts on the matter in this related post.

How to find out who’s linking to you in 60 seconds

I have an easy hands-on video tip for you today. Lesson #7 of my “Learn in 60 Seconds” video series shows you how to use a tool like SEOMoz’s Open Site Explorer to find out how many other websites/web properties link to your own. This is a great way to benchmark interest in your properties from a traditional SEO linking sense. It’s also a great way to see if your partners are indeed linking to your web property without having to look through their sites. I apologize for my cracking voice ahead of time. I still haven’t been able to shake off the cold I got a few weeks ago (even lost my voice completely at one point). Slowly, it’s getting better.

Identify search engine keywords used by your target audience in 60 seconds

This week’s “Learn in 60 Seconds” video is ready to go. The Lesson? How to identify search engine keywords used by your audience in 60 seconds. I personally think that Google Insights for Search is one of the most under appreciated free marketing research tools out there. I can’t teach you all that much in 60 seconds about this one, but hopefully enough to get all of you newbies interested. Stay tuned for another more “advanced” video about this tool down the road.
